Home Learning – Year 1 - Autumn Term First Half 2017

Spelling and Times Tables

Children will have a spelling test every week.  Spellings will be given to your child every Friday and he/she will be tested on them the following Thursday.

Here are some suggestions to help your child learn their spellings:

The following is a list of the spellings that we will be working on this half term.  Some spellings are ‘regular’ and easier to remember whilst others are ‘tricky’ and difficult to remember.  These spellings cover ‘age expectations’.  It is expected that confident spellers will move through this list steadily, whilst less confident spellers will have an opportunity to revise misspelt words and therefore move through the list more slowly.

Maths Homework Online – IXL

Children will complete their maths homework using the school home learning and school assessment tool, IXL.  Children will be allocated homework on a Friday, based on what the class have been learning that week. The number of problems and skills to be practiced will be set by the class teacher, along with a minimum pass mark. It is expected that you supervise your child’s use of IXL, as completion of maths homework will be monitored weekly. If your child does not have computer/internet access, your child will be able to access a computer in school to complete their home learning.

Individual login and password details for IXL will be provided by the class teacher. It is advised that you keep these somewhere safe. Please click on the icon below to go straight to the IXL log-in page

Times Tables

Your child will be learning the 10 times tables.  They will be tested on these on a regular basis.  The times when your child will be tested are set out below.

Your child will be given a phonics worksheet to complete every week.  The worksheet will focus on the sounds that the children will have learned in class that week.  The sheets should be returned in their folder no later than the following Thursday.
